thought i may want to do the Herbie Hancock post now..

Alright Herbie Hancock is a jazz legend.. to date, he's rated:

Musician of the Year 2008 at the Jazz Journalists Award
17 Grammy Awards

He's born in the 1940s raised by a hardworking father and a strong-willed mother and grew up to be one of the best jazz musicians in modern times..

Surprisingly, music was able to make him stop crying. His parents bought him a used piano and he practiced dedicately, winning a contest at age 11, finally being selected to play a Mozart piano concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Then his journey began..
Not surprisingly with him as a post, his first encounter with Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism was when he was performing with jazz bassist Buster Williams. Buster William was able to produce a soulful sound with his acousic bass despite the nature of the instrument being mellow.. Herbie began to wonder how Buster was able to play such such wonderful music.. In fact Buster has just started practicing Nichiren Buddhism.. Herbie was drawn to Buster's sharing of the profund yet accessible Buddhist philosophy.. He realized he couldnt find what he was looking from outside himself, rather it was there inside him, all he had to do was to tap into the door of his life

A year after his revelation, he formed a new group which rocked the music world with its fusion of jazz and funk.. Critics and jazz purists accused him of squandering his talent, the band was widely received and was a huge success! He began to explore, fuse and refine new and innovative jazz styles by combining conventional techniques with synthesizers and other devices.. at the same time experimenting with different genres.

He's always challenging his personal obstacles as well as the walls of musical convention. He always revolutionizing music. To keep up with him is to be in the vanguard of music he composed scores for films, television as well as advertising jingles.
Creativity is a desperate struggle to go beyond what we were yesterday. Its a battle against resting on our laurels and the fear of losing what we have. It is an adventure into unknown territory

"If creativity is the most important component of jazz, Herbie Hancock is the epitome of the jazz artist." Crtitics who once denounced his music as a betrayal of jazz are now hailing it as the genre's essence. Herbie has won. He comes from the orthodox school of jazz but his work is also revolutionary. He has truly transversed the road of kings.
What's his source of inspiration? Herbie said to President Ikeda of the SSA "In my experience, the only way to release my inner creativity is to continuously go back to the Gohonzon and chant daimoku. There is no other way. I firmly believe this."

He declared in 1987 after winning an oscar, "I used to think that music brought people happiness, that it had the power to change people's hearts. But now i know that personal growth is the source for creating better and deeper music. I will continue to do my best to contribute to the development of music while polishing the spirit to earnestly seek what it is to be truly human." It was a declaration of humanism for the music world.
